Avignon
Avignon owes its origin to the Rocher des Doms, a natural refuge above the Rhône. “City of the River” according to some, “City of violent wind” according to others, it occupies a strategic position.
Already in the 12th century, it was an important city thanks, in particular, to the Pont d'Avignon which allows the crossing of the Rhône. With the arrival of the Popes in the 14th century, it became a second Rome. Visits are possible by small tourist train departing from Place du Palais, from March 15 to October 15. Cathedrals, museums, Palais des Papes (a visit of approximately 4 hours), the Place de l'Horloge, its ramparts, restaurants... Avignon has no shortage of riches to discover...
